Who are we
The United Steelworkers (USW) and Migrante-Ontario are working in partnership to create an organization devoted to helping, training and advocating for independent workers in the home care sector.
Among other things, this organization would develop a campaign to lobby the federal and provincial governments to review immigration laws specific to the workers under the Temporary Workers Program (TWP) and the Live-in caregiver Program (LCP).

** The United Steelworkers has over 280,000 members in Canada and can be found in every sector of the economy – from factories, offices, hospitals, bakeries, banks, transport and communications. More than 20 percent of Steelworkers are women and there is a growing membership among racialized workers. The USW has always been a leader in the fight for justice and equity in all workplaces. The USW supports the creation of this new organization so that caregivers and domestic workers have a way for fighting for the same rights and protections that other workers have achieved.
** Migrante-Ontario is an alliance of organizations working for the rights and welfare of migrants in Ontario through various initiatives such as organizing, education, training and advocacy. Migrante-Ontario member organizations come from Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and Barrie. The alliance also works closely with other migrant / immigrant groups in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal. Migrante-Ontario is part of the global network of migrant and progressive organizations. It is achapter of Philippine based Migrante International – a global alliance of migrant / immigrant Filipinos.
